Managing Partner/Patent Attorney

  • Jongsun Kim is a patent attorney and is managing the firm as a co-founder of KLP IP Firm.
  • Ms. Kim is also a commissioner of the Korea Trade Commission (KTC) at present and is directly involved in determining important decisions relating to tariffs and unfair trade practices such as infringements of intellectual property rights, and she is the only patent attorney among the members of the KTC.
  • Ms. Kim received her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Kyungpook National University and Master’s degree in Electronics from Hanyang University. She has expertise in organic/inorganic materials, polymers, nanotechnology, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, foods, display engineering (including LCD, OLED, and LED), battery technologies including solar cell, secondary cell, fuel cell and separator, nanotechnology, semiconductors, and electronic devices. She has been responsible for preparing intellectual property prosecutions and trials and litigations for clients.
  • Before to found KLP, Ms. Kim worked for Nawoo Patent & Law firm as a partner responsible for foreign patent prosecution department and chemistry department for about 10 years after she passed the Korean patent bar in 2001.
  • Ms. Kim worked at Shinjyu GIP, an intellectual property law firm in Japan, as a trainee in 2006. She is proficient in Japanese and can communicate in English and Chinese.
  • As an effort to improve patent attorney system of Korea, Ms. Kim has actively participated in many activities: she served as a president of the Korea Women Patent Attorneys Association in 2013 and served as a standing commissioner of the Korea Patent Attorneys Association for 4 years from 2014. She also lectures at numerous universities and enterprises for researchers or IP attorneys.
  • Currently, Ms. Kim is a committee member of Patent Committee of the APAA, a board member of the APAA Korea Group, and a member of the LESI, AIPPI, and INTA.
  • Ms. Kim is a mother with two sons and loves to travel with her family. She also likes to play Gayageum, Korean traditional musical instrument, and learn to play golf.
